Peking Paris 2007

As a competitor on the 100th Anniversary Peking to Paris Endurance Rally,  Matthew wanted to do a series of paintings that would be a record of each and every one of the 130 vehicles that competed in the event.

This project has been a huge undertaking starting with the photography and sketching of each car, as they travelled across the world in the race from Peking to Paris.

The finished paintings are of all the cars as they were at different stages of the rally, even the few that didn't make it all the way to Paris! The unique details of the cars have been captured, including the parts that were held together with tape, and the parts that had fallen off completely.

The abstract backgrounds capture the spirit and feeling of the event, the dust, the sandstorms, the wind and the rain that everyone experienced driving through China, Mongolia, the Gobi desert, Siberia, Russia and Eastern Europe. Each time you look at the painting of your car it will re-ignite very personal memories reminding you of the many stories you still have to tell.

A labour of love and nearly 2 years in production, these are the completed paintings so far. The remaining competitors cars are nearing completion. As each painting becomes available they will be added to the site.

To be notified when the painting of your car is completed or to purchase a completed painting, please email your contact details and Matthew will be in touch.
